  • Competing swimmers must register by 8:00 am race day with the handicappers (John, Judith or David).
  • All swim events commence at 8.30 am sharp.
  • Competitors must be in the water when the race starter calls names, otherwise that competitor will be disqualified.

BBAC Swimming Pointscore and Handicap System 2017/18

ALL participants must be current members of Brighton Baths Athletic Club (BBAC) to participate in swimming events.

Competing swimmers must register with the handicappers by 8:00 AM race day if they wish to race.

Handicaps

  • All swimmers will be given a handicap time for the first race calculated on their best 50 metre time from the first 2 races from the previous season plus 3 seconds.
  • The 50 metre handicap is converted to the 100 metre handicap by taking the 100 metre handicap time of each swimmer and multiplying by 2.2,the 200 metre handicap by multiplying the 100 metre handicap time by 2.2, and the 400 metre handicap by multiplying the 200 metre handicap time by 2.2. The 1000 metre handicap will be calculated on times from last season or if a swimmer did not participate in the 1000m last season, it will be based on their 400m time.
  • If a competitor swims slower than their handicap time, theirnewtimefor the next week’s swim will be increased by the number of seconds the person exceeded their time by to a maximum of 2 seconds per 50m.
  • If a competitor breaks their time, this time will be their new handicap.

New Swimmers

  • If the swimmer does not have a time from the previous season or is a new member then the first race is a qualifying race and the swimmer will receive the lowest points (5) allotted on the day. All those who have a swimming time from the previous season are eligible to score points in the first pointscore event.

Trophy Races

  • Swimmers will be handicapped on their best time or handicapped time (whichever is lowest) during the season for trophy races.
  • To be eligible to win a trophy race, swimmers must have completed: 4 races for the December 1000m race, 8 races for the 100m Championship race, 8 races for the Norm Hanna Memorial and 10 races for the Wal Davidson Memorial and the March 1000m.
  • The Brighton RSL Classic is open to all swimmers and they will be asked to nominate their own time on the day.
  • Except for the 100 metre championship, which is off scratch, swimmers cannot break by more than 10secs over 200 metres, by more than 20 seconds over 400 metres or by more than 50 seconds over 1000 metres in a trophy race.
  • If there are not enough swimmers who qualify for the final then those who break by the least amount of time go into the final (up to a maximum of 6).
  • No watches are allowed to be worn in trophy racesor in scratch races.

Annual Pointscore

  • This season the Annual Pointscore operates over 16 races.
  • No points are allotted for the Christmas 1000m, the Easter 1000mor the Brighton RSL Classic events.
  • The best 14 weeks of the 17pointscore weeks will count towards the Annual Pointscore. This allows members to miss 3 weeks and still be competitive in the pointscore.
  • A maximum of 45 points can be won on the day.
  • Place Points: in each race points are awarded from 10 points for first place down to 5 points for 6th place or lower.
  • Time Points: points will also be allotted for those who swim faster than their handicapped time from 35 down to 1, across all races on the day. Those who break their time receive higher points than those who don’t break or swim slower than their times thereby encouraging everyone to swim their fastest time each week.
  • If a race is cancelled on the day, e.g. due to bad conditions, then all competitors who turn up on the day will receive 15 points.

110 kick start the BBAC 2015 Running Season

Hi all

An excellent start to the season with the rain staying away and 66 adults runners and walkers on hand.

29 did the 6k which was won by Jenny Downing from Gary Rosenberg and Dave Robinson.
31 did the 3k won by Reef McNally from Tahlia McNally and Steph Kalamvokis.
Finally, we had 6 who did the 3k walk, our new category and point score. This category is just for those who cannot run, do not want to run at all or have a long term injury which will see them walk all year. This is not the category to start walking and then slowly build into full run. Peter Fenwick beat Colin Jennings and Maddison Daley.
There were  also 45 children who took part in the 1.5km race. Noah Doran was first across the line in 4.50, closely followed by last years winner Alexia Kalamvokis and Cooper Daley was 3rd. It was great to see so many parents get involved to ensure the safety of the kids.
The children will race over the same distance next week, however the race will be handicapped on their best times.
Please find attached the season running  programs for both the adults and children.
To assist in getting the adult events started at 8.30am, please attempt to be registered with John Smith by 8.20am. Children should register with Kirsty or Jemma by 9.20am.
See you next week and welcome to all our new members, we hope you enjoy the season.

Nippers Registration open for 2015-2016 Season

Please find attached the Brighton Baths Athletic Club Nippers registration for the 2015-2016 season which will commence in October 2015. There are limited spots available and once age groups are full we will not be accepting any further registrations.

We are a volunteer organisation and parent assistance is mandatory. We understand that some families have multiple children attending and therefore can only be at one place to assist, however you are expected to assist.

Registration  will be held this Sunday 1 March 2015 after Club Championships from 11am-12.30pm.

Please check website or facebook in August for the Season program and dates for swimwear collection.
